Brrrr...ooots!

It's that time...the snow has fallen and frantic moms are searching for warm boots for their kids! What makes a good boot?
Warm feet, dry, and cute
....doesn't sound like a lot to ask, but ask just about any mom in Canada, and I'm sure you'll find they HATE trying to find good winter boots for their kids.

Sorel is a name that is often tossed around as a good brand name. But how many of you have spent the extra $$ only to have your kids crying that they have popsicle toes!

Ugg has become the signature brand for cozy toes...and in my opinion has become an iconic symbol of cold weather! I LOVE how warm sheepskin boots keep my feet...but what's the deal with the super smooth soles? A couple years ago I was outside doing supervision at recess and a soccer ball made it's way towards me. Being the super cool substitute teachers aide...I decided it would be fun to do a full out wind up and kick it back to them...well, I wound up...right on my butt! The kids loved it all right! Stupid Uggs!

SO to add to the "perfect winter boot" requirements...I also must find boots with grips!

TAADAAA!!!

$50.93(on sale!)

Buy It Now for $102.24

In my mind...it's worth spending just a little more to keep their toes on their feet and their bums off the ground!

Happy shopping!

Joeffer Caoc and My Filosophy Night of Giving and Fashion

A red carpet event was held last night in the midst of beautiful people, food, clothing and Lexus cars! It was a fabulous event put on my Tannis  Davidson(My Filosophy) in support of The Stollery Childrens Hospital, a cause I'm always happy to open my wallet to!
Delicious appetizers flowed steadily through the crowd as we enjoyed live music from Kathleen Kelly and rested a moment on the pretty furniture by Elegant Touches! The fun didn't stop there! There were raffle tickets to buy, Melting Pot treats to sample, Photo booth fun to entertain, and a silent auction to peruse.
The fashion show(MC'd by Catherine Dunwoody) began with samplings from the My Filosophy store! I eagerly feasted my eyes on the beautiful tweeds, pretty bows, lovely bags and boots, dresses, cardigans, leggings and cozy plaids! A great display of fall fashion perfect for Edmonton!

Later on in the evening we enjoyed the great opportunity to see Joeffer Caoc's spring/summer 2012 collection! The volunteer models did such a great job showing off his collection of light airy colors and fun sporty fashions. I especially enjoyed the pops of sparkle!

My Favorite of the night! Mixture of texture and delicate sparkle!
Plus, I loved the models smiley face every time she came out!

My favorite dress of the night! Gorgeous!

All in all it was a fabulous time...I even walked the runway showing off the bracelet I bought last night and earned a prize for my bravery!

Healthy Deodorant...do I HAVE to smell like Eucalyptus???

As a child, my family was very health conscious. The woes of the worlds ways were steadily brought to my attention by my diligent mother. It is believed by some that wearing a battery operated watch is detrimental to your health...I don't remember why. Maybe I can't remember because of the aluminum poisoning brought on by ingredients in my toothpaste and anti-persperant!!

Due to my childhood training, I am afraid of anti-persperant. Every time I've worn it, I worry that my longing to smell nice will translate into memory loss in my future. (Aluminum causes Alzheimer's)

I wonder if there is a name for that fear... like persperphobia.

So, my life has consisted of a long drawn out search for deodorants...for they do not contain aluminum. For years, many of the typical hygiene companies made deodorants and they were readily available on my pharmacy shelf. Then one day, they disappeared! What was a sweaty girl to do? The idea of rubbing a scentless crystal rock under my arm, just didn't appeal to me. And scouring the health food stores left my nose wrinkled in disgust at the smell of the Chamomile or Lavender options they sold.

Then one day...at the back of my favorite gossip magazine...my little eye did spy... "THE HEALTHY DEODORANT" and to my extreme excitement the ad went on too say that it came in my very favorite scent! VANILLA!!! To Google I quickly headed, to search for a store in Edmonton that might carry it. Voila! Sephora!
I was a happy girl! The LAVANILA product was all I hoped it would be and more! I didn't even mind the $23 price tag since it really lasts a long time!

But a few weeks ago, I decided to try my local pharmacy one more time and was happy to see new options available! So I've given two new products a try and am happy with both their scent and their "service"
Their price tag makes me smile too as they were both under $5!

So... happy smelling folks!
And thanks to no aluminum...this is a life lesson I'll always remember!

My adventures as a Kingsway Mall Stylist!

Thanks to many of my friends and family...I was voted into my dream job this summer! Many of you have asked me what I've been up to, what it's been like, and if I'm loving it...so I thought I'd post an update of what I've done so far!

(Photo's courtesy of The Sun Edmonton)

The first project I was assigned to was Back2School! A familiar subject for me, as I was preparing my own two for grade 5 and 3 this year!

I had great fun dressing my models for both The Edmonton Journal and The Sun.

Another amazing opportunity came when I got to record my very own radio commercial!
I do have a copy of it, but if you'd like to hear it, contact me!

I also recorded two television commercials for Global Television, and was on the morning news with Global talking about back to school...watch the segments here !

And then to cap the Back2School project off, my kids were models for a segment on Shaw!

Check out September 2011 Avenue Magazine HERE and pay close attention to page 17!

And to answer the question of how I'm enjoying my new job...I LOVE IT!! Working for John Chwyl is a dream come true! My adventure has only just begun and already I'm black and blue from all the "pinch me" moments!

Rolling in Fall Trends 2011

Rolling in Fall Trends 2011

Rolling in Fall Trends 2011 by NicoleRuth featuring wedge high heels All found at Kingsway Mall

Fall weather...time to cozy up in your favorite warm tones and textures, and layer, layer, layer. Daytime can be warm, but we all know our weather in Alberta is a fickle friend. Don't let the breeze blow away your fun with fashion. Fall is my favorite fashion season because it's the time to play with cozy scarves, boots, and cardigans. Fall 2011 hottest trend is the wedge bootie. The one featured here is from Aldo, and what I love most about it is the combination of textures. The crochet top and the slouchy leather just ooze fall to me. Plus, I LOVE the hidden wedge. Makes you look super tall with out anyone realizing you've added a couple inches! So this fall...get out there and kick some leaves... and as always, do it with style! Remember! Life is your runway...even if it's covered in leaves!

Hurricane Katrina...the restoration.

They named a hurricane after my daughter.
It's true... she was born before the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, and when I see her room, I see the connection.
For the sake of our relationship, I choose years ago to just close the door.

But this week she went to camp...for 5 days!
Now was my chance! I took out all her belongings...

Sighed over the border I lovingly hung when she was a baby...
Then I got to work. Washed walls (sighed over the drip of milk on the wall from her baby bottle!)
Filled nail holes, scrubbed glue from tape that had held up Selena Gomez posters.
Then prepped, sanded, swept, painted a coat, repeat!

My good assistant/hubby hung the fab chandelier I found a year ago.

Then came the wallpaper, bedding, accessories...

and I even framed her OWN artwork!

Then came the big moment! I picked her and her brother up from camp and made the plan with my assistant/husband...he hid in her room with the video camera.
I expected tears...she threw her camp wristband at her dad.
I think that meant she was happy.

Watch the video above.
